I have caught the redecorating bug
Posted July 10, 2010 by Clunk

"I am obsessive about adorning, particularly curtains and window treatments. There appears to be something of an epidemic in newspapers of images showing collections of curtains and window treatments. I've clipped out every one displaying the rooms in which have actually cute window shades or sheer curtains. Curtains got here to me after more than a decade of tailoring and pattern-making. It was June of 2005 when the curtain bug was born within me. I grew to become obsessed with drapery and window coverings, devouring books, instruction manuals and traveling to satisfy other curtain-makers. I became fascinated with sculptural form of suspended material, and the way that cloth capabilities as a filter between the inside and outside. I grew to become conscious about the intimate nature of the curtain when used within the dwelling, how the opening of curtains signified simple issues like the welcoming of the new day, or the act of drawing the curtains earlier than bedtime supplied needed heat, softness and comfort. In this method the curtain transcends the simple purpose of aesthetics, it brings us a way of privacy, texture, peace. In part, it's simply an dependancy to decorating. When TV shows about stately houses, the bits that intrigue me most are the decorating details. While others gasp in awe at the grand old manor, I eagerly examine the nick nacks on the cabinets - though typically after all they've been put there purely for show by later custodians, or are generally merely mocked-ups covers of the real thing. However other, less wholesome, instincts are operating right here too. Maybe it's a form of voyeurism, a lust to find responsible secrets.
