SFMC
FMFB
Q & A with SFMC founder and in the words of that
dude Cirus of the
Warriors "Can you dig it?"
FMFB: First things first, where did you find the banging
Hawaiian honey
and is she the face of SFMC?
SFMC: Ha ha. That little “knife fighter” is
Kanoe…her entire name is
actually KANOEKAPUAOKAWAIHOONUI! She is one of our
new model signings for
2007. That young lady was a Christmas gift from Tony
Wilson, my homie who
is Macintosh guru to the Rolling Stones.
FMFB: How did you come to the conclusion you had to
bring this killer line
to the masses?
SFMC: Well, my sister Amy has a Hot Topic retail store
in Scranton, PA.
Every time I was home for a visit, I would invariably
drop piles of loot
on cool tees, etc. One afternoon I placed the items
that I had intended to
purchase on the counter to the shock of one of her
hot little employees.
She then commented that she had no idea that I was
a fan of Fallout Boy
(whoever that is…). The tee had no band name,
no recognizable logo, but
was a simplistic “rocker” design on a black
tee. At that moment I had a
realization that these tees were most likely being
designed by folks who
had never grew up in this scene, lived “loud” like
me or my pals, been to
a Sunday matinee show, or even have a clue who the
Bad Brains were. The
SFMC line was born.
FMFB: Who designed the crazy dope SFMC family crest?
SFMC: Oh, that’s one
of my paintings. Glad you dig it. As our extended SFMC
(dysfunctional)
family grew, the need for a crest was apparent! Although
that one is mine,
my partner Becca is the other designer that shoots
for us.
FMFB: Although the style is def NYC east coast type
vibe, SFMC acronym can
easily be mistaken for San Francisco Motorcycle Club,
does the line have
any representation out in the West Coast?
SFMC: SFMC does not have any formal West Coast representation.
We do certainly
have a bunch of LA/SF heads championing the brand out
that way. Kerry Maloney
with Key Club is a huge supporter.
FMFB: Other than direct from the website, are there
any shops that carry
SFMC? Please list so people can go out and make purchase.
SFMC: Lawanna’s in Williamsburg has had it,
while YRB has agreed to pick
up both SFMC and the Webster Hall line (designed by
SFMC for East Eleven).
Other than that all other retail outlets are still
in negotiations…by
Spring 2007, SFMC will be available in select, lifestyle
boutiques and
stores in Philly, Boston, Chicago, and LA. One of my
partners, Guy, is in
talks to introduce the line in Israel. We also have
it available at of our
weekly events; Aim Low and Train Wreck…as well
as our quarterly
debauchery-fest; Payback. Folks can certainly always check back with the site
for constant updates
of our maneuvers.
FMFB: Are there any starlets and rock stars rocking
the line?
SFMC: Sure, sure.
It’s been on Naima (America’s Next
Top Model), Stephen Perkins
(Jane’s Addiction), Buckcherry, Gallo from Agnostic
Front, Rigg from
Madball has some custom pieces…as does a couple “Playmates” and
a few
“Pets”. The professional wrestler, Boris
Naboka wears our stuff in the
ring. I received a phone pic of one of those damn Olsen
gals wearing a
boy-beater a while back. Throw in a couple pro-skaters,
pro-skydivers and
BASE jumpers, a UFC fighter. And of course the true
rockstars and
starlets; the NYC rock scenesters and acts.
FMFB: There are so many lines that rep for hip-hop
culture but absolutely
no one line repping urban rock culture. Rock lines
come and go,
Where do you see the SFMC line in five years?
SFMC: In 5 years I see SFMC doing exactly what we
are doing now; Genuinely
and organically representing the rich, sexy, dark world
of the NYC
underground. I’d like to think that we would
be making some money by then,
as well!!!
FMFB: How long has SFMC been around?
SFMC: The management company got started in 2004/2005.
The clothing line
and the current line up of family members just celebrated
it’s one year
anniversary on New Year’s Eve.
FMFB: If you had the choice to have any starlet, porn star,
or Rock&Roll
honey be the face of SFMC who will that be?
SFMC: Wow…I'm not sure. I would love Liz Vicious
in the clothes. To tell
you the truth, I love all of our current “bulletproof” women.
All of our
SFMC models legitimately rep the lifestyle that the
line was spawn from.
Christine Crimescene and Pia are two very serious felonies.
Not to mention
the firestorm that is Cara, Kayci, Jay, and Kanoe.
They are NYC. They are
the faces of SFMC.
FMFB: In closing, where does the inspiration for the
line come from?
SFMC: Our inspiration for the line was absolutely, 100%
all the “dynamic”
downtown NYC bartenders, doormen, DJ’s, “Delivery
services”, prostitutes,
unsigned bands, storytellers, promoters, street artists
and indie models.
We pay homage to these true Saints. All these folks
were the first to have
the stuff, and the guys and gals that I sincerely hope
continue rocking
it.
FMFB: OK, keep rocking and much success "Can
You Dig It?"
SFMC: Thanks. Live Loud.
